Just for curiosity, as I was leaving Virgil's cave for the first time, I saved and took off my hazmat suit just to check and was surprised that it was still a constant 6 and no raising.
Seriously, When I first got to the Glowing Sea, while still in the border, as the damage started already at an almost instant six, I put the Hazmat Suit almost immediately, thinking that as I'd get further inside, it'd raise to around 50 or even 100! Specially considering it's appearance and radioactive storm.
